After the full formation of the brain, cranial ultrasound is not so much effective, because the waves that are used to perform the test cannot pass through the bones. This is the main reason it is basically effective on the babies as the bone of their skull which is called cranium, is nor fully developed and it is soft. And in adult it can performed when the brain is opened while surgery. The best time to perform this test if required is 18 months from birth.

As a result the child can develop cerebral palsy that is a form of mental retardation.
